Malden and Melrose Join the Fight for Economic Justice

We had a great kickoff event on September 21st at Fellsmere Park in Malden for the joint Malden & Melrose RaiseUpMA campaign! Several folks out for their morning jog stopped to ask us questions and sign the petitions.

We even had a special guest visitor – Kevin McCarthy from South Shore Progressive Massachusetts, who was kind enough to take a group photo.

We spent the rest of the day gathering signatures, along with several folks from Tri-City Community Action Program (Tri-CAP), at Malden Riverfest. It was a gorgeous afternoon so the event was quite crowded. We had lots of good conversations with voters and heard many personal stories about low wages and lack of earned sick time. People in our area definitely understand the need for more economic justice.

Progressive Massachusetts supporters in Malden & Melrose have travelled to Everett and Boston to gather signatures on the recent municipal election days. Our members also have had great success gathering signatures at Democratic City Committee meetings, shopping centers and houses of worship.

All in all, we’ve had a strong start and we’ll continue to gather signatures at local farmers markets, recycling centers and libraries. We also have plans in the works for weekly joint petitioning events for Malden, Melrose and Medford, working with the Medford chapter of Progressive Massachusetts.
