Shared Prosperity Agenda Progressive Revenue Petition

This summer, we're highlighting features of our Shared Prosperity Agenda. Our members are sharing their perspectives on Education, Healthcare, Housing, Jobs and Wages, and Progressive Revenue. In our fifth and final installment, we focus on a Progressive Revenue.

We are committing to a Shared Prosperity Agenda and we have set the following goals for a Progressive revenue:

  • Within five years, we want a constitutional amendment to implement a graduated income tax.

  • A good first step would be to enact legislation that would raise $1 billion in new revenue from the wealthiest residents and close corporate tax loopholes.

Dear Legislator,

We, the undersigned residents of Massachusetts know that our families and our communities need investments in the services, schools, and infrastructure that our Commonwealth a great place to live and to work. We must ensure that we have sufficient revenue to make the necessary investments and our current revenue is not sufficient. Our tax system should be stable, simple, and fair -- new revenue should come primarily from our wealthiest residents and corporations should pay a fair share.

We urge you to support a graduated income tax and to close corporate tax loopholes.

Sincerely,
