Call your legislator now - Tell them you don't want unemployment cuts tied to minimum wage increase.
The Secretary of State just informed us our signature drive to get minimum wage and earned sick time on the ballot succeeded - thanks to you and the thousands of volunteers who collected a record 285,000 signatures.
Our effort is already making a difference. Less than a month ago the State Senate passed a minimum wage bill that raises the minimum wage to $11 and indexes it to inflation.
But now the House is threatening to slash unemployment insurance in exchange for raising the minimum wage. Essentially robbing the unemployed to pay for the working poor. And this is happening just as Tea Party Republicans in Washington are refusing to extend federal unemployment benefits for more than 33,000 Massachusetts residents.
Don’t let this happen. Tell your State Representative, cuts to unemployment benefits are off the table.
