Introducing the Scholars Strategy Network

We have recently forged a relationship with The Scholars Strategy Network so that we may provide our supporters with great academic thinking on issues of the day.  Founded by our friend and Partner, Bob Bowditch, the Scholars Strategy Network brings together many of America's leading scholars to address pressing public challenges at the national, state, and local levels. As progressive-minded citizens, SSN members spell out the democratic and policy implications of their research in ways that are broadly accessible.

Avi Green serves as Outreach Director and recently told me of the work SSN did in support of Filibuster Reform in the US Senate. One of SSN's scholars - Thomas Mann of the Brookings Institute - was quickly able to get the facts out about Filibuster Reform and push back on the notion that it was a radical mistake on the part of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Pick a topic and check out SSN's pithy and fact-filled writings.

The Anti-Poverty Agenda

As we enter the holiday season, most of us can be thankful we have great family, friends and economic security (check out Charles Blow's moving opinion piece).  But our work as progressives must continue to be focused on the growing and dangerous income inequality in our nation.

Our own Susan Davidoff shared this great piece from The Nation on the need for a shared Anti-Poverty agenda.  It leads with two of our ballot initiatives - minimum wage and earned sick time.

Alice Versus Alec

You've heard of ALEC - The American Legislative Exchange Council?

It's mission is to "advance the fundamental principles of free-market enterprise, limited government, and federalism at the state level through a nonpartisan public-private partnership of America’s state legislators, members of the private sector and the general public."

Now, introducing ALICE whose mission is to "create a public library of model progressive laws for state and local government, including support aids to their effective communication."

Check out the policies they are promoting.  Add and comment below and tell us which policies you favor for Massachusetts.
