SUMMARY:Grading the State House: A Report Card on (In)action: 7/30\, 1 pm
DESCRIPTION:Grading the State House: A Report Card on (In)action: 7/30\, 1 pm\n\nMassachusetts legislators opened the legislative session by promising a more productive and transparent legislative session. However\, as we approach the end of the formal session\, few bills have been signed into law. \nThe Trump administration wages war on our state’s economy\, people\, and values. Our state grows more unequal and more unaffordable every month. Yet the Legislature fails to feel the urgency expressed everyday on the ground. \nWith the formal session drawing to a close\, activists will join at the State House to present a report card of the session to date across a range of subject matters. Representatives from relevant groups will be given the opportunity to grade the Legislature’s work so far and whether they are meeting the moment \n## \nOrganizations so far:\nProgressive Mass\nNeighbor to Neighbor Massachusetts\nFamilies for Justice as Healing\n\nNorth American Indian Center of Boston\nMass Trans Political Coalition\nHomes For All Massachusetts\nUnitarian Universalist Mass Action\nAct On Mass \n\nPublic Higher Education Network of Massachusetts (PHENOM)\nMass Power Forward Coalition\n\nOur Revolution Massachusetts

SUMMARY:Tuesday\, 8/18 @ 11 am\, State House: “Child Care Can’t Wait” Rally
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, 8/18 @ 11 am\, State House: “Child Care Can’t Wait” Rally\nSince the beginning of the FY27 budget season\, SEIU 509 has been advocating for increased funding to ensure that Family Child Care providers receive a reimbursement rate increase for childcare subsidies this year. \nSince Family Child Care Providers don’t have a traditional wage structure\, reimbursement rates for Child Care Financial Assistance are central to bargaining\, and SEIU 509 is at the table right now for a new three-year contract following two years of rate increases at or below 1%. \nSo far\, EEC has not made an offer on rates. With $0 currently appropriated for rate increases\, family child care providers could be on track for a 0% increase. \nRSVP here.

Lightworkers weaves together individuals’ stories through themes of civic engagement\, social responsibility and individual agency to create a portrait of individual power and community — and a sense of hope that\, together\, we can do anything. \nDoors open at 5:00 pm. Screening begins promptly at 5:20pm. Following the screening will be a live discussion with Bobby Roth joining virtually\, while joining in-person will be Peyton Fleming of the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition\, and Rebecca Riccio of the Boston Trainers Collective. \nThe film series is co-sponsored by Mass 50501\, Dunk the Vote\, MIRA\, Partners in Democracy\, Indivisible Hingham Hull\, Boston Indivisible\, and Activist Evenings.

SUMMARY:Candidate forum with the MA Higher Ed Table
DESCRIPTION:Candidate forum with the MA Higher Ed Table\nSaturday\, August 22\, 2 pm to 4 pm\, Northeastern University \nMassachusetts often ranks first in the nation for higher education and boasts many top universities\, both public and private. Yet real challenges face the students\, faculty\, and staff who bring billions to the state economy and make Massachusetts the ‘most educated state in America\,’ especially in the current federal landscape. Rising costs for tuition and housing\, attacks on freedom of speech and academic inquiry\, and an increasingly uncertain labor market put higher education at an inflection point. Join the Massachusetts Higher Education Table and student leaders across the Commonwealth August 22\, from 2-4PM\, for a nonpartisan candidate forum on these and other issues facing higher education today. The event will be held at a school in the Greater Boston Area\, with hybrid options available. Candidates representing Massachusetts in local\, state\, and federal office are invited to speak and answer questions from attendees. RSVP here for more information and to stay updated.
