Progressive Needham Books -- The Woman Behind the New Deal: Frances Perkins

On Sunday, April 8, at 3 p.m., join us at the Center at the Heights for a celebration of Frances Perkins, one of the most influential people of the 20th century you may never have heard of. The guest speaker will be Kirstin Downey, author of The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins.

Frances Perkins was Franklin Roosevelt’s Secretary of Labor for 12 years, and was the first woman cabinet member. She was the chief architect and advocate for legislation impacting the lives of America’s working people, including labor relations, social security, and labor standards. She pushed for massive public works projects that created millions of jobs.
